“I was eight months pregnant with twins — no housing, no job, and really no future for me and my kids. Getting this job felt like a new beginning.”

When guests discover a jar of Hon’s Honey as part of a welcome amenity, receive a thoughtful in-room gift, or take home something beautiful from their stay, they’re encountering more than a well-crafted product. They’re participating in a story of healing, second chances, and new chapters — the steady work of women rebuilding their lives through meaningful employment.

Hon’s Honey is a social enterprise based in Baltimore and an employment program of a nonprofit called The Well. Each product is handcrafted by women survivors of trauma, including addiction, trafficking, generational poverty, and abuse. Before joining Hon’s Honey, women participate in a holistic healing and life development program that includes counseling, workshops, mentorship, and community support — building the foundation for long-term stability and growth.

From infused honeys to bath, body, and gift products, each item reflects care at every step — not only in how it’s made, but in who it supports. 100% of profits go directly toward employing and empowering women on their healing journeys. At Procure Impact, we’re proud to partner with vendors like Hon’s Honey who demonstrate how thoughtful purchasing decisions can help restore dignity, create opportunity, and support lasting transformation.

In this edition of On the Job, we spoke with Leona, a team member at Hon’s, about her journey, what her workdays look like, and how this job has changed her life.

Meet Leona:

How did you feel when you first landed this job?

"Extremely lucky. I was eight months pregnant with twins, and I was starting all over again. I had no housing, no job, and really no future for me and my kids. Getting this job felt like a new beginning."

Tell us what your typical day on the job looks like.

"I fill in, so I run around a lot. I get to help other people finish their projects when they have too much on their plate. I really like that every day is different.

I also fill in for people when they’re sick. Most days I get to make products, and on days when I’m having a hard day, I’ll label products. Most of the time I get to do things from start to finish — and I need that. It gives me a sense of accomplishment."

How has your future changed because of this job?

"I have housing now, and I get to come to a place every day where I’m happy. I get to learn new things, and it’s really nice to hear that I’m doing a good job. That encouragement keeps pushing me forward in all aspects of my life — not just here at work."

What is your favorite item that you sell and why?

"Our infused honeys. I cook with them, and it’s a great way to get my kids to eat healthy without realizing it. They’re really good for you — and honestly, they’re just really good on meat."

What’s your favorite thing about working here?

"Getting to be here with people that I care about, and that I know care about me. No matter what I’m struggling with, I can come here and have a smile on my face before the end of the day.

It gives me encouragement to go and do all the hard things I have to do at home and in life."

What would you tell people considering buying your products?

"They are absolutely magical. My skin has always been really sensitive — I have eczema and psoriasis. Our beard salve helps me with my psoriasis. The healing ointment and the lotion bar helped me with my eczema.

My daughter is a teenager and started breaking out, but she uses the sugar scrub almost daily with the hydrate mask, and she doesn’t have breakouts anymore."
