On the Job with Cheryl

Employee at My Cup of Tea

At Procure Impact, we partner with vendors that employ individuals overcoming significant barriers to work. By sharing their journeys, we aim to highlight how your purchases directly empower lives and build brighter futures.

Tell us your name and where you work.

My name is Cheryl Henderson, and I work at My Cup of Tea in Orange Mound, Memphis.

How did you feel when you first landed this job?

This job has given me stability and strength in ways I never imagined. I have developed relationships that never would have been, and I found out that the common denominator is love here. Love conquers all.

Tell us what your typical day at My Cup of Tea looks like.

We start our day with prayer because faith is a big part of what we do. Then, we get to work—measuring, weighing, packaging, and preparing tea for shipment. We also take time to connect with one another over lunch, and it feels like a family meal. Some days I assist customers who come through the door, introducing them to our teas and sharing our story.

How has your future changed because of this opportunity?

Being part of My Cup of Tea has given me a sense of belonging. I was raised in this community, moved here when I was five years old, and I’ve seen it change over the years. This job has reinforced my love for the people here and given me an opportunity to contribute to something meaningful.

What is your favorite item that you sell and why?

Oh, wow, we have over 60 flavors, so it’s kind of hard to choose a favorite. But I would say Orange Mound Porch Peach for sure. It’s comforting, full of warmth, and reminds me of home. I also really like Goji Berry Green, which is full of antioxidants and really good for you, and Strawberry Decaf, which is another favorite.

What's your favorite thing about working at My Cup of Tea?

The people. This is more than a job—it’s a family. We support each other, we pray together, and we grow together. There is so much love here, and that love extends into every cup of tea we sell.

What would you tell people considering buying your products?

You're changing lives one cup at a time. When you purchase our tea, you’re purchasing change. It helps women in the community grow and strive for something more impactful. Every cup of tea tells a story, and we’re grateful to be part of yours.
